Thomas R. Schreiner's Tyndale commentary on 1 Corinthians, the replacement volume in the series, on a church full of contention and the apostle's answer to it. Read more.
The cosmopolitan city of Corinth was the site of one of Paul's greatest evangelistic successes, and the church he founded there was full of contention: questions about leadership, a case of incest, believers taking one another to court, disputes over marriage and celibacy, food offered to idols, the conduct of public worship, and the spiritual gifts. Paul answers each in turn, and in doing so lays down principles the church has needed ever since.
Thomas Schreiner wrote this volume as the replacement for the earlier Tyndale commentary on 1 Corinthians, and it reflects a career spent in Paul's letters. He keeps the exposition accessible while being clear about where the interpretive difficulties lie, particularly in chapters 11 to 14. Volume 7 in the Tyndale New Testament Commentaries.
