Volume 10 of the revised Expositor's Bible Commentary, covering Luke and Acts as the two halves of a single work. Read more.
Volume 10 covers Luke and Acts together, as Luke intended them to be read: the birth narratives, the ministry in Galilee, the long journey to Jerusalem, the passion and resurrection, then the ascension, Pentecost, the growth of the Jerusalem church, the conversion of Saul, the mission to the Gentiles and Paul's journeys to Rome.
The revised Expositor's Bible Commentary, edited by Tremper Longman III and David E. Garland, is a multi-contributor evangelical series keyed to the English text. Each section gives an overview, verse-by-verse commentary, and notes on the original languages kept separate so readers without Greek or Hebrew can use the volume comfortably. Treating Luke and Acts in one volume keeps the continuity of Luke's argument about the purpose of God in view. Useful for preaching either book and for tracing the transition from the ministry of Christ to the mission of the church.
