John Owen on Hebrews, abridged for modern readers. The Puritan's monumental exposition made usable in a single volume. Read more.
Owen's commentary on Hebrews ran to seven folio volumes and is among the most formidable works in English theology. This Crossway Classic Commentaries edition abridges it to a single usable volume while keeping the substance of his exposition: the superiority of Christ to prophets, angels, Moses and the Levitical priesthood, the better covenant and the once-for-all sacrifice, the severe warning passages, and the catalogue of faith.
The Crossway Classic Commentaries make the great expositors of earlier centuries usable again, lightly abridged and edited into modern English with the author's argument preserved. Alister McGrath and J. I. Packer served as series editors. Owen's treatment of Hebrews is unmatched for its handling of the priesthood of Christ, and this abridgement puts it within reach of pastors and readers who would never attempt the original. A natural companion to his Mortification of Sin and Death of Death.
