Few Christians would dispute that Romans is among the most powerful and influential books ever written. Paul's epistle has been the written force behind some of the most significant conversions in church history: Augustine was convicted of his sin reading a few verses of chapter 13, and Luther and Wesley were each turned by it. R. Kent Hughes preaches through the whole argument, from universal guilt to justification, union with Christ, Israel, and the obedience of chapters 12 to 16.

The Preaching the Word format keeps the exposition continuous and the application constant, which suits Romans particularly well: the doctrine is dense enough that a reader can lose the thread, and Hughes keeps restating where the argument has reached.
