There are commentaries, and there are books on preaching, but very few that combine elements of both to help a preacher or Bible teacher prepare a series on a particular stretch of Scripture. This series gives the teacher the tools to grasp the context of a biblical book, its doctrinal themes, and the practical business of turning that into a sequence of talks.
Christopher Ash takes Romans 1 to 8 and works through the argument with the teacher's questions in view: where the natural divisions fall, which passages will take more than one session, and where congregations predictably get lost.
