Originally published in 1836 as Evidences of the Authenticity, Inspiration, and Canonical Authority of Holy Scripture, this book contains Archibald Alexander's defense of God's role in the inspiration of Scripture, laid out in the evidential manner of his century.

Alexander devotes considerable space to the truth of Scripture, the veracity of miracles, the fulfillment of prophecy and the credibility of the Gospels, supporting throughout the view that the Bible is the inspired Word of God. As the first professor at Princeton Seminary he set the course that Warfield later continued, which gives the volume historical as well as apologetic interest.
