Marvin Tate's technical commentary on Psalms 51-100, the second and third books of the Psalter. Read more.
Marvin E. Tate's volume covers Psalms 51 through 100, spanning much of the second and third books of the Psalter. It includes David's penitential psalm after Bathsheba, the Asaph collection with its hard questions about the prosperity of the wicked, the lament over the ruined sanctuary, the enthronement psalms declaring that the Lord reigns, and the call to worship of Psalm 100, each with Tate's own translation, textual notes and discussion of form.
The Word Biblical Commentary is a technical series providing the author's own translation, full textual notes, detailed comment on form and structure, and explanation of the passage's theology. It assumes some facility with the original languages. Psalms 1-50 are treated by Peter Craigie in volume 19 and 101-150 in volume 21, so this volume covers the middle third of the Psalter rather than the whole book.
