Grant R. Osborne's volume treats Matthew from the genealogy and nativity through the five great discourses, the miracles and controversies, the confession at Caesarea Philippi, the Olivet Discourse and the passion and resurrection, closing with the commission to make disciples of all nations. The kingdom of heaven and Matthew's use of the Old Testament receive sustained attention.

The Zondervan Exegetical Commentary on the New Testament works from the Greek text and follows a fixed structure for each passage: literary context, main idea, a graphical layout of the argument, structure, exegetical outline, verse-by-verse explanation, and theology in application. Clinton E. Arnold is general editor. The graphical layout of each passage's argument is particularly useful for sermon preparation, since it exposes the flow of thought before the verse-by-verse comment begins.
