Boice preaches through Ephesians, from election before the foundation of the world to the armor of God, with the church and marriage in between. Read more.
This volume follows Ephesians from the blessings chosen for believers before the foundation of the world, through salvation by grace apart from works, the wall broken down between Jew and Gentile, the gifts given for building up the body, the putting off of the old self and the putting on of the new, the ordering of marriage as a picture of Christ and the church, and the whole armor of God against spiritual opposition.
The Boice Expositional Commentary series grew out of James Montgomery Boice's pulpit ministry at Tenth Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia, which means the chapters began as sermons and read like them: Reformed in conviction, pastoral in tone, and free of technical apparatus. Ephesians moves from the highest doctrine to the most ordinary conduct, and Boice follows that movement rather than treating the two halves separately. Good for personal reading, small groups, and pastors wanting a model of how to preach the letter.
