John 18-21 - the arrest, the trials, the crucifixion, the empty tomb and the breakfast on the shore. The concluding volume. Read more.
The last four chapters of John move from the garden to the courtyard to the cross and then, unexpectedly, to a charcoal fire on a beach and a restored disciple. Boice calls it triumph through tragedy, which is the shape of the whole account rather than a comment on its ending.
This concluding volume completes the five-volume exposition, handling the trial narratives and the resurrection appearances with the same verse-by-verse care as the rest. James Montgomery Boice was senior pastor of Tenth Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia, and these chapters were preached there before they were printed.
