MacArthur on the Johannine letters, covering assurance, the tests of genuine faith, and the love of God. Read more.
This volume treats all three letters of John. The first sets out the tests by which believers may know they have passed from death to life, the call to walk in the light, the warning about the world and the antichrists, and the declaration that God is love. The second and third are brief personal letters dealing with hospitality toward true teachers, the refusal of false ones, and a dispute over a man named Diotrephes.
Each volume in the MacArthur New Testament Commentary works verse by verse through the Greek text, explains the passage in its context, and presents its theology with precision, in the service of expository preaching rather than academic debate. The series is the fruit of more than five decades of pulpit ministry at Grace Community Church.
